Ampere Electric Plans Investment of INR 700 crores for e-mobility manufacturing plant in Ranipet, signs MoU with Government of Tamil Nadu

  • Proposed Ranipet facility has potential capacity up to 1 million units per annum
  • Greaves already invested INR 250-Cr in the acquisition of Ampere and ELE e3W and their scale up since January 2019
  • This facility is likely to be operational by 2021

Chennai, February 16, 2021: Two years after its first acquisition in e-mobility, Ampere Electric, the wholly owned electric mobility subsidiary of Greaves Cotton Ltd, announced phased investment potential of INR 700 crore over 10 years to set up a world class e-mobility manufacturing plant in Ranipet, Tamil Nadu.  A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to this effect was signed by the Company, with the Government of Tamil Nadu, today.  At over 1.4 million square feet, the proposed Ranipet manufacturing plant when ready will be one of the largest state-of-the-art e-mobility manufacturing plants in the country. 

Ampere Electric’s Ranipet plant will have the potential to start manufacturing 100,000 units in its first year of operation, and has the potential to scale to 1 million units per annum.  This facility will be operational by 2021, providing employment opportunities to the local population. To be built on the principles of Industry 4.0, the

Ranipet Plant will boast an advanced automation process for superior manufacturing capabilities. 

With this, Ampere actively participates in Make-in-India and Atmanirbhar Bharat story of the Government in order to accelerate adoption of clean and sustainable solutions in form of Electric Vehicles. Ampere Electric appoints Roy Kurian as COO, E-mobility Business (2W&3W)

Bangalore, January 20th, 2021: Ampere Electric, a wholly-owned electric mobility subsidiary of Greaves Cotton Ltd., has announced the appointment of Roy Kurian as Group Chief Operating Officer (COO) to head its E-mobility Business of electric 2-Wheelers and electric 3-Wheelers, with immediate effect. Roy will report to Greaves Cotton Group CEO & MD Nagesh Basavanhalli while Sanjeev P, COO, 2-wheelers and Yash Purohit, Head of Business, 3-wheelers will continue to drive the respective businesses.

Prior to this, Roy was associated with Yamaha Motors for 17 years as the SVP where he was responsible for providing strategic direction to the company and driving growth for the Indian market. Most recently, he was associated with EV startup Tork Motors as Sales and Marketing Head. Given Roy’s rich industry experience, Ampere will benefit from his deep domain knowledge, strategic direction and organizational efficiencies, which will help in accelerating the next level of growth for Ampere Electric, ELE and other forays in electric mobility.

Xiuzhan Zhu becomes new CEO of Borgward Group AG

The Supervisory Board of Borgward Group AG has appointed Xiuzhan Zhu as Chief Executive Officer of the company. Borgward announced this in Stuttgart.

Xiuzhan Zhu succeeds Dr. Philip Koehn as CEO with effect from November 6, 2018. Xiuzhan Zhu joined Borgward as Vice President Purchasing & Strategic Projects from the beginning of Borgward Group AG in 2015. Zhu, who lives for about 20 years in Germany, has a long experience in the automotive industry. After studying in China and Germany, gaining an MBA in International Industrial Management, he began his career in Germany at DaimlerChrysler. Later on, he held leading management positions at international automotive suppliers.
